Viña Leyda

Pioneers in the Leyda Valley

vina leyda The Viña Leyda vineyards are located in the Leyda Valley, traditionally an area of natural pasture lands and basic crops such as wheat and barley.

In deciding to establish the vineyards here in 1997, the Fernandez family made a strategic investment in an 8 kilometre pipeline to the valley from the Maipo River, for irrigation purposes.

After three years of development, the first harvest and production were celebrated in 2001. Pinot Noir, Sauvignon Blanc and Chardonnay were bottled.

Its closeness to the ocean with its maritime influence makes Leyda Valley an excellent spot for viticulture, the summer breezes creating the cool conditions during spring and summer - ideal for these varieties.

As a result of pioneers like Viña Leyda, Leyda Valley was granted a Denomination of Origin appellation within the San Antonio province in May 2002.
