The expression of Brazilian terroir.
Miolo has vineyards in each of the five main Brazilian wine-producing regions and has a history dating back to 1897.
Giuseppe Miolo, a youngster from Piombino Dese, a small place in the Italian region of Venetia, arrived in Brazil bringing with him a passion for grapes and for wine.
He settled in Bento Gonçalves, a town which had been recently established by Italian immigrants. With his savings he bought a piece of land, Lot 43, in a vineyard valley and “Lote 43” is now the name of the noblest wine currently produced by Miolo.
In the 1970s, the family was a pioneer in growing fine grapes and Giuseppe Miolo’s grandsons, Darcy, Antônio and Paulo became known in the region for their focus on quality.
Vinicola Miolo was established in 1989, and in 1994, the company launched its own wine under the Miolo family name.
The first wine released by the family was a 1990 Merlot of which only 8,000 bottles were made.
Wine Tourism
Miolo has a modern structure in Vale dos Vinhedos to welcome visitors. It includes a cafeteria, the vineyards, the tourism centre and Osteria Mamma Miolo, installed in the basement of the home of the family’s Italian immigrants.
The increasing importance of quality of life and the search for rejuvenation have created a demand for a new kind of hospitality. This concept underlies Villa Europa – a Wine Spa.
