Viña MontGras

Premium wines crafted with a personal touch.

vina montgras Viña MontGras is located in Colchagua, sub valley of the Rapel Valley, in the Central Region of Chile, 120 miles south west of Santiago.

The Rapel Valley has over 9,000 hectares of vineyards that are naturally protected by the Coastal Range to the West and the Andes Mountain Range, where the Cachapoal and Tinguiririca (Colchagua) Rivers flow, to the East.

The Colchagua Valley provides a protected environment with positive maritime influences and an ideal terroir for the production of high quality wines.

The Colchagua Valley is one of the most important agricultural areas in Chile, renowned for its fruit crops and excellent vineyards. Apart from its geographical location, the other main factor that determines the high quality of the Colchagua Valley wines is its climate.

Colchagua has a Mediterranean climate, characterised by four clearly defined seasons. This climate is rare, existing at only four other points around the world: the Mediterranean coast; the California coast; the Cape of Good Hope; and the southeast coast of Australia.

Low humidity, the Pacific Ocean's maritime influence and the breeze from the Andes Mountain Range alternatively, generate an ideal condition for grape growing, especially in the summer months (November - April), where thermal variation fluctuates up to 22° C

This allows the grape to mature slowly, with a long growing season and therefore achieving a long molecular chain which is responsible for the aroma and taste of the fruit.

First Lire Trellis Systems

Viña MontGras was the first winery in Latin America to introduce the Lire Trellis System on a massive scale. This modern vineyard management system is used to control vigour and is perfect to suit the Valley floor soils.

Using lire, the vine forms a dual canopy, increasing its surface area. Also, the exposure of the fruit to the sun is maximised, the yields controlled and quality of the grapes improved. These improvements are noticeable in the vibrant colours, forward fruit aromas and especially the round, smooth tannins in the red wines.

All of MontGras vineyards, are drip irrigated with water from their own wells. Thanks to the natural boundaries and exceptional climatic conditions, a minimum amount of pest control is required.
